Here in my car I feel safest of all I can lock all my doors It's the only way to live In cars Here in my car I can only receive I can listen to you It keeps me stable for days In cars Here in my car Where the image breaks down Will you visit me please If I open my door In cars Here in my car I know I've started to think About leaving tonight Although nothing seems right In cars

It's my direction It's my proposal It's so hard It's leading me astray My obsession It's my creation You'll understand It's not important now All I need is Co-ordination I can't imagine My destination My intention Ask my opinion But no excuse My feelings still remain My feelings still remain
7.
Out here in the fields I farm for my meals I get my back into my living I don't need to fight To prove I'm right I don't need to be forgiven Don't cry Don't raise your eye It's only teenage wasteland Sally, take my hand Travel south cross land Put out the fire Don't look past my shoulder The exodus is here The happy ones are near Let's get together Before we get much older Teenage wasteland It's only teenage wasteland They're all wasted!

Looking back on when I Was a little nappy-headed boy Then my only worry Was for Christmas what would be my toy Even though we sometimes Would not get a thing We were happy with the Joy the day would bring Sneaking out the back door To hang out with those hoodlum friends of mine Greeted at the back door With 'Boy, I thought I told you not to go outside' Tryin' your best to bring the Water to your eyes Thinkin' it might stop her From whippin' your behind I wish those days could come back once more Why did those days ever have to go I wish those days could come back once more Why did those days ever have to go 'Cause I love them so Brother says he's tellin' 'Bout you playin' doctor with that girl Just don't tell I'll give you Anything you want in this whole wide world Mama gives you money for Sunday school You trade yours for candy after church is through Smokin' cigarettes and writing something nasty on the wall (you nasty boy) Teacher sends you to the principal's office down the hall You grow up and learn that kinda thing ain't right But while you were doing it, it sure felt outta sight I wish those days could come back once more Why did those days ever have to go I wish those days could come back once more Why did those days ever have to go

What's it all about, Alfie? Is it just for the moment we live? What's it all about when you sort it out, Alfie? Are we meant to take more than we give Or are we meant to be kind? And if only fools are kind, Alfie Then I guess it's wise to be cruel And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie What will you lend on an old golden rule? As sure as I believe there's a heaven above, Alfie I know there's something much more Something even non-believers can believe in I believe in love, Alfie Without true love we just exist, Alfie Until you find the love you've missed you're nothing, Alfie When you walk let your heart lead the way And you'll find love any day, Alfie, Alfie

Do you remember a guy that's been In such an early song? I heard a rumour from Ground Control Oh no, don't say it's true They got a message from the Action Man "I'm happy, hope you're happy too I've loved all I've needed, love Sordid details following" The shrieking of nothing is killing, just Pictures of Jap girls in synthesis and I Ain't got no money and I ain't got no hair But I'm hoping to kick but the planet it's glowing Ashes to ash and funk to funky We know Major Tom's a junkie Strung out in heaven's high Hitting an all-time low Time and again I tell myself "I'll stay clean tonight" But the little green wheels are following me Oh no, not again I'm stuck with a valuable friend "I'm happy, hope you're happy too" One flash of light but no smoking pistol I've never done good things I've never done bad things I never did anything out of the blue, woh-o-oh Want an axe to break the ice Wanna come down right now Ashes to ashes, funk to funky We know Major Tom's a junkie Strung out in heaven's high Hitting an all-time low My mother said, to get things done You'd better not mess with Major Tom

It's cold outside And the paint's peeling off of my walls There's a man outside In a long coat, grey hat, smoking a cigarette Now the light fades out And I'm wondering what I'm doing in a room like this There's a knock on the door And just for a second I thought I remembered you So now I'm alone Now I can think for myself About little deals And issues And things that I just don't understand Like a white lie that night Or a slight touch at times I don't think it meant anything to you So I open the door It's the 'friend' that I'd left in the hallway Please sit down A candle lit a shadow on a wall near the bed You know I hate to ask But, are 'friends' electric? Mine's broke down And now I've no one to love So I find out your reasons For the phone calls and smiles And it hurts And I'm lonely And I should never have tried And I missed you tonight So it's time to leave You see it means everything to me

about

A bunch of covers I either made, finished or remixed during the UK's COVID19 lockdown 2020.

Why 19 tracks? Because I literally cannot resist a pun. (Seriously, I need help...)

No financial component to this exercise - so I don't think there's any copyright issues.

Coming soon: 'COVERED19 (Second Wave)' - still working on that one, got about 15 tracks earmarked so far, some nearly done, some not even started yet. Probably won't be finished very soon.

credits

released June 25, 2020

01. Looney Tunes (Carl Stalling) - made with ’sample-instruments’ created from short samples taken from the LP “The Carl Stalling Project: Music from Warner Bros. Cartoons 1936-1958”

02. Cars (Gary Numan) - Lock all the doors.

03. Dr Who (Ron Grainer)

04. The Odd Couple (Neal Hefti) - an attempt to reproduce the sound of the original recording, only using VST instruments (and Band-In-A-Box ‘realtrack’ drums).

05. Game Of Thrones (Ramin Djawadi) - Winter is coming.. Oli Vincent on Irish whistle. I play bouzouki, guitar and Korg MonoPoly.

06. Souvenir (OMD [Paul Humphreys]) - an attempt to replicate the sound of the original recording using only VST instruments and some samples. Extended the middle 8. (Vocals done on the onboard webcam mic on my MacBook!)

07. Baba O'Riley (The Who) - a one-note sample from “Knight Rider” on repetitive loop reminded me of the intro of this song.. I couldn’t stop until I’d covered the whole tune.. all just VST instruments and samples.

08. Withnail & I (Dundas & Wentworth) - Love this film, love this tune.

09. Higher Ground (Stevie Wonder) - on drums: Mr. Stevie Wonder!! Found the isolated drum track on YouTube, played the bass, guitar, synth and keyboards and topped it off with my shit vocals.

10. I Wish (Stevie Wonder) - another Stevie tune I often play with my covers band - I play the bass / keyboards / fake brass and do more shit vocals..
Geoff Sheridan’s trumpet track from a previous demo recording is tucked in there too.

11. Europe By Train (Neil Hannon) - a great melody by Neil Hannon (The Divine Comedy) which appeared on the 1993 album “Liberation” - I always thought the original version of this tune was very distorted and obscured and didn’t really do justice to the brilliant melody, so I covered it. Did I improve it? No, but at least I can hear the tune now! Andre Borges on soprano and tenor saxophones.

12. Alfie (Burt Bacharach) - an all-time fave toon. - done a cover, innit? I used Band-In-A-Box ‘realtracks’ for the drums, bass and piano - played the rest with VST instruments.

13. Ragdoll's Cakewalk (Claude Debussy) - Let’s never say the ‘G’ word any more..

14. Ashes To Ashes (David Bowie) - started out as a ’study’ to see how closely I could replicate the original, just using Sample-Instruments and VST instruments.. (and some DI guitar through Logic amp simulators). It came off well, so my mate Ben Parker put vocals on it. Finally, someone who can sing on this album!

15. Tales Of The Unexpected (Wrong Grainger) - takes me back to some Sunday nights of my childhood.. again, all just VST instruments and FX.

16. Tomatoes (Neal Hefti) - just VSTi’s

17. Star Trek [Kirk's Waltz] (Alexander Courage) - a ‘Dave Brubeck’-inspired arrangement for piano, bass and melodica (I can’t play saxophone.. ) - some synth and some soundFX from the original series thrown in.

18. Are 'Friends' Electric? (Tubeway Army) - started off mimicking the sound of the original but didn’t end up going the whole hog. Robot prostitute shares her side of the story..

19. Merrie Melodies (Friend & Franklin) - made with ’sample-instruments’ created from short samples taken from the LP “The Carl Stalling Project: Music from Warner Bros. Cartoons 1936-1958”

- That’s all folks!
